Gary is a dual-qualified lawyer (China and New York) with over 20 years of international legal experience across private practice and in-house roles, including as APAC General Counsel for two Fortune 500 companies.
Gary has deep expertise in compliance, dispute resolution, ESG and sustainability, having advised both multinational and domestic clients in China on high-stakes regulatory investigations, corporate criminal liability, and environmental governance. He has played a pivotal role in landmark legal cases in China, including the country’s first non-prosecution verdict for a multinational company’s environmental criminal liability, achieved through the implementation of an ESG improvement plan.
Gary previously served as a Partner at Dentons, where he was a member of the Global ESG Steering Committee. He is also a China law expert at the Climate Policy Hub of Oxford University.
Gary combines a strategic understanding of legal risk with practical operational insight, supporting clients with establishing business in China, contracting with domestic Chinese companies, ESG audits, sustainability frameworks, and complex dispute resolution. His multidisciplinary approach has earned him accolades including China Top 15 Green Economy Lawyer (Legalband) and recognition by Legal 500’s Global Green Guide.
